The following list of supplies are what you'll need for fitting and sewing classes. Check the details in the class schedule for what each class suggests you bring.
Basic Fitting Supplies
- Glass head pins
- Magnetic pin cushion (optional, nice to have)
- ½” Magic tape (green box)
- Weighted tape dispenser (not required, but makes life easier)
- Palmer-Pletsch gridded pattern paper
- Colored pencils/pens
- Paper scissors
- Sewing tape measure
- 1” wide elastic (to mark your waist)
- Necklace (to mark your neckline for fitting blouses/jackets)
- Clear ruler – about 18” long (not required, but nice to have)
- Slip, camisole or "pant slips" (fitting of blouses, skirts and pants is done over undergarments, but not over clothes )
Basic Sewing Supplies
- Fabric scissors
- Thread snips
- Hand needles
- Sewing pins (glass head)
- Seam ripper
- Thimble (if you use one)
- Tape measure
- 6” sewing ruler/gauge
- Chalk-o-liner or tailor’s chalk or chalk pencil
Nice to Have Extra Sewing Supplies
- Bamboo point turner
- Tracing wheel & chalk paper
- Push-pull bodkin (for threading elastic through casings)
Suggested Patterns
Garment Sewing Levels 1 through 5 are structured for the student that isn't sure where to start. There are a series of 2 hour techniques classes that you can take first to brush up your skills, or you can dive right in. The list of patterns below is a suggestion only - you can use whatever pattern you like. These patterns were selected so that you can re-use a pattern in multiple classes and have a coordinating outfit, as well as for the design details in them (ie. building from simple to more complicated as you progress).
