August Newsletter from Akasha Clothing

August 29, 2008

It's hard to believe that we're at the end of August....and that means back to school and fall weather is just around the corner. A little disconcerting....and as much as I never want to see summer end, I always get a little skip in my step at the thought of crunching through leaves, wearing new corduory pants, and putting on those nice warm sweaters and wool jackets on a crisp autumn morning.

Pattern Updates & September Special

The instructions for Sachi Jacket and Hapi Purse have been completely re-written! To celebrate, Sachi and Hapi will be on sale from Sept 1 to Sept 15. Buy them both for $21 + GST and shipping (regular $26).

Classes

Pant Fitting - there are 3 spaces left in the September 19-21 pant workshop. We held the trial run of the class a couple of weekends ago to make sure that all the kinks were worked out and there was sufficient time etc. Everyone went home with fabulous looking pants that they all agreed "felt great". Register before Sept 5 and receive 15% off the price of the class.

Akasha Trunk Show - I'll be holding some trunk shows over the autumn months. Contact the Forest Lawn Quilt Guild or the Peace by Piece Quilt Guild for details about their shows. Mark October 9 on your calendar for a trunk show at Needleworks in Calgary. And if you are a member of a guild and would like to have a trunk show, give me a call to arrange it.

Drop In Fit happens on Monday, September 15 from 6:30 to 9:00pm. If you need some help with fitting your pattern before you cut it out, stop by with your pattern and alteration tools. Cardboard pinning grids and tables are provided, and the coffee will be on.

Travel Wardrobe - sew up a travel wardrobe for your winter vacation by taking a class with me through Chinook Learning Services. Details and registration are on their website; classes start October 14. I'll have the photos of the sample wardrobe on my website soon.

Upcoming Shows

Akasha Clothing will be at the Calgary Creative Stitches & Crafting Alive show on September 26 and 27. This is the first time Akasha Clothing has been at the show for several years, and the show is under new management, so I'm looking forward to meeting many of you, re-connecting with some "old" customers, and seeing what changes to the show format are in store for us! I'll be teaching 2 classes at the show each day - 20 Designer Tips and Creating Texture with Fabric.

Edmonton Creative Stitches & Crafting Alive show has a new fall date this year - October 3 & 4. Stop by the Akasha Clothing booth and see our large selection of buttons, try on some of the sample garments, and pick up a pattern with completely revised instructions! I'll also be teaching the same 2 classes at this show (as at Calgary). Whether you sew garments, home decor or quilts, the information that I share in 20 Designer Tips will be sure to help you improve your sewing and make your projects look more professional. And Creating Texture with Fabric is just plain fun!

Help Wanted!

That's a common phrase in Alberta these days. If you've got an hour or two and would like to get into the Edmonton or Calgary shows for free, let me know. While I'm teaching the classes at the 2 shows (2 hours each day), I'll need some help back at the booth. Your job will be to make sure that there's someone at the booth to answer questions (or take down names for when I return) and to handle the cash for any sales.

New Buttons

The latest shipment of buttons that I ordered have arrived from Italy. There are some fabulous wood ones that are large enough for jackets, some great silver and gold toggles that could be used on garments or bags, and some handsome black buttons with inlaid burgandy or brown squares. A new camera and photoghrapher should have the photos on the website soon.

Happy Sewing,
Cindy
